My feud with carrots

Carrots are nice when eaten raw. Or in a salad. Or in carrot soup (because it´s always made with lots of ginger). Today I almost ruined ramen broth by putting one in the vegetable infusion. Hubby had bought organic veggies for mirepoix, with three medium- sized carrots in the box. One I had used to pep up yesterday´s salad, the second one got chopped with onions, ginger, leek and garlic this morning. I poured the broth over the vegetables and waited for ten minutes. When I strained it, soup was orange and flavoured of carrot only. What had I spent yesterday´s afternoon with boiling bones and meat for, when one carrot can kill all other flavours? The solution was a hefty dose of sake and more ginger, and finally almost all traces of carrot were gone. Next ramen broth will have to go without carrots, whether or not the recipe wants them. The rest of the cooking was fairly uneventful, and all were satisfied, especially Flavius, who ate two servings of broth with ramen noodles. While the boys had their after-lunch nap, we adults did coffee testing in the conservatory- four different blends, two different coffee brewers. Then DiL´s brother had to leave, the rest of the family stayed until now. I am sort of deaf- the louder Cassian hollers, the louder his younger brother gets. I sincerely hope, that I will find the remote control of our TV, before the daily crime thriller starts, or hubby will get frantic. Cassian did an extremely good job at hiding it from his younger brother, who loves to take apart remotes he gets his hands on. Cassian hid that darn thing so well, that we haven´t been able to detect it until now...
