Day off

Yesterday was supposed to be my day off. Day off doesn´t mean that I am free for leisure, but free of family duties, like cooking or cleaning... Usually I have a day off when one of my children has to do an important paper for school and needs my help. Since I have been sick the last days, I was enthusiastic to get away from the heap of domestic work that had massed the last days. Seems I reckoned without my host. After a night of coughing out my lungs  I had to drive son No.3 to the railway station at six in the morning, not an easy task, because the city was mostly inaccessible because of a marathon. Not that the marathon was going on already, but we live in a town where everything is planned and accomplished beforehand, even if beforehand means that people do a ten minutes detour straight through residential districts, where people would like to sleep a bit longer on Sundays, whereas the main route along a river, where only a few people live,is closed for marathon participants who will come into the picture only a few hours later. Of course I went back to bed afterwards, but now the neighbor´s dogs were frolicking in the garden. My mother told me she was not able to cook because of her frail condition, so I went through the content of my freezer and found-tada- selfmade dumplings filled with meat, which were  served for lunch. Husband dearest brought my mother her daily food ration. The good lady would be willing to die before fire up her oven. See, I have created a monster! Meanwhile son no.4 needed to be picked up in town, because there were no bus connections, because of the marathon, I suppose. Then I had to go to the polls, because I am respectable citizen who knows his responsibilities. Coming home I wearily eyed car of son no.2. What was he doing here all of a sudden? To cut a long story short, I had forgotten about Romanian Easter, and future daughter in law had prepared a typical Romanian Easter Lunch, fortunately without cabbage roulades. I hate cabbage roulades, but I had to eat it more often than I would like these last years. Lunch was really good, but as mentioned earlier, we had eaten dumplings already. Everybody was ready to burst. So I had to cram my daughter´s paper into the small period of time between coffee with Romanian cake and evening snack, because I was all run down because of all the eating and the coughing, hoping to get over with the job quickly ...I had to pick up son no.2 at the railway station, because the last bus to our suburban residential area had left the station a few minutes early. Needless to say that I went to bed without comment. I ought to start off a cab company!
