That was a close call! Today hubby and I did the final cleaning of the flat, after son´s guests from Ireland had left. It was snowing hard, and I watched lots of children on their way on the narrow street at the back of the house, aiming for the little hill for tobogganing. I was opening a can with cat food for Samsung and Sony when all of a sudden there was a terrifying sound coming from outside, and when I dashed to the dormer window thick branches whooshed past, some crashing down onto the roof, the rest landing in our garden together with the rest of the tree that had decided to die before 2018 is over. That had not been a young tree, its diameter being at least 50 centimetres! Fire brigade came to free the way for those who live at the top of the hill, the roof of mum´s house is a bit damaged, the rain gutters are torn off, and the wooden garden furniture did not make it into 2019 also. But all in all things turned out well, save for the owner of the forest behind the house. This one has already been ordered by the responsible authority to cut back respectively cut down the trees. Those strong winds we had for about two weeks now have finished the tree off, and there are more of those endangering passersby and residents. But what if those children had passed by a few minutes later? They might have easily got slain because of a negligent forest owner!
