May. 14th, 2019 11:14 am"Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught and the last river been poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money."
Cree Indian proverb (allegedly)
Yes, I know, we all know that Native Americans are supposed to be wise. They do not even place importance on having money, at least more than is needed for life. They love nature and cherish the change of seasons. They will never ever pollute this world, as the rest of us do! Wait! All Native Americans are humble beings and wise beyond dispute, as the word is? Well, not entirely... at least if you look carefully at the history of the Anasazi, as they were called by the Navajo. Those Ancestral Puebloans are famous for their great adobe buildings, up to nine stories high, the highest buildings in North America at that time, that´s why they needed plenty of logs. But trees did not grow fast and in plenty in that area, and after some time there weren´t many left, and with the disappearing of the trees came aridity, because fertile ground got blown away. Archeologists did examine the tree discs of the used logs in the last building the Puebloans were putting up before all went down the drain. Totally not funny: In 1270, just when aridity had reached its pinnacle, the last tree got cut down and put into one of those gigantic buildings made for a tribe that had no fortune in this place. There were no more trees to cut down to finish the pompous construction project. Food had gotten hard to grow, since the river had dried up. No trees, no fish, no river. Some of the Ancestral Puebloans must have turned North to mingle with the Crees up there, for them to tell their knowledge to some member of the ecology movement of 1980, who was in need of a wise motto for the campaign.
In plain English: Climate is snapping, that´s for sure. After many months with way too warm temperatures it´s snowing again, in the middle of May, just when bathing season should be officially opened. Considering that autumn here starts early and weather forecasts for summer suck tremendously I´ll better get myself up and out of the door to the next travel agency, to book a summer vacation in Greece. I know, that´s another way to ruin the climate, they say, and they are in the right, but I am so tired of cold temperatures…
