Distance learning
Jan. 15th, 2021 11:42 amSchools may open on the 24th, but only if lockdown 3rd will not be extended. Signs are pointing to prolongation, even though people are slowly but surely coming out into the streets to protest against futile restrictions. But protest is a two-edged sword. Eventually it might come to a total lockdown of the last existing liberties like skiing and other sporting activities when our radius of movement gets downsized to 15 kilometres because of notorious protesters. Yesterday I had an interesting phone call with an old friend, mother of three, one boy one year shy of High school certificate, the twins last year junior high. I asked her what she thought about distance learning. How shall I put it? She and her offspring are totally happy about it. The boys and her husband are mad about football, and this year is the first the four of them are able to watch every single game on TV. Since some games start around midnight here there always has been much wailing when watching football fell a victim to class. This year they watch then sleep, get up at ten then do their lessons. The whole family prays for a prolonged lockdown to mid February, because Super Bowl is on the seventh. My friend says that never before family life has been so calm at this time of the year. Of course, this only works when children are older and their fathers work home office. With primary schoolers and both parents working times like these must be extremely challenging. I feel deeply sorry for son number one!
