Apr. 26th, 2021 04:40 pmUsually I go to bed around midnight and am wide awake at five in the morning. This time I did it the other way round: went to bed early, got up after midnight and went to bed again at six in the morning only to sleep a bit longer than usual. Yes, it has been Oscar time again. Maybe I should have stayed in bed. It was boring, boring, boring most of the time. Like our local commentator said, only half of the few good films that got produced during Covid times have even been nominated, and many of the winning films are nice to look at but even nicer to sleep through. Daughter watched with me until five in the morning but had to leave then, to get at least three hours of sleep. Online teaching started at 8:30, and she did not want to miss it. I watched until the (not so) bitter end, which was like "And the Oscar goes to Anthony Hopkins, thank you for watching and good-bye." What an abrupt ending, which brought a lot of bad remarks concerning the actor in its wake! Well, hello, this is an old man who greatly dislikes such events, which makes him only more applaudable in my eyes! Good thing is that I will be able to watch at least six of the nominated films on Netflix and Amazon Prime, even printed out a list, so that I won´t forget about watching!
Poor Elsa and her mum have fallen ill, so they will have to postpone their visit. They will come a week later. Good thing is that they will make a detour to Fireland then and buy some brand new chilli plants for me, those extra spicy ones I love so much. This way I will save the trouble of having to do a two and a half hour´s drive to the nursery. Had they come this week nursery would still be closed...
And now I am back to resting in my throne-chair, the one I always fall asleep in because it is so very comfortable to sit in and watch TV then sit and sleep...
PS: Just found Hopkins's acceptance speech on Instagram. Having finally gotten his vaccinations the actor has went back home to Wales and slept through the award winning ceremony.
