Mea culpa

I just found the original package of the embroidery threads I had bought last year. Seems there has been a Christmas edition focussing on the colours white, green and red. One white, two different greens and reds. Apparently this year the Christmas edition was not yet available or already sold out, and the ordinary package has only red, green, blue and yellow in it. And though less threads it´s more expensive than the one I bought last year, but that comes as no surprise. There aren´t many things in shops that will not come with a hefty uplift. Oh yes, Covid has done it´s job, and how! Anyway, I could have looked closely but didn´t, that´s why I will have to improvise.

Today I got a Whatsapp message from son number three. "We will come next Friday. We will bring a pumpkin to carve (that´s what I hate most regarding Halloween, I am not a gifted carver but very good at cutting my fingers). Elsa will help you with decorating (aha, means that I better not bring out spooky things or my beloved black and silver lanterns, who have cost a small fortune). What will we have for dinner, and please do not forget that my brother plus family will be here, too." Thank you very much, maybe you will invite number one, too, for a private Halloween party? Could be the last time we will be able to meet up, because a) Covid numbers are exploding as are the numbers of those who end up in hospital b) on Monday autumn vacation is about to start, so schoolkids aren´t under Covid control anymore (they have to do a PCR test thrice a week). Tonight at 10 PM we will know more, but I fear they will go for another half-lockdown that keeps us from visiting each other when not vaccinated. Since DiL has not gotten her jabs upon the advice of her physician (she suffers from a coagulopathy since birth) she (and her family) would not be allowed to come anymore. Does not bode well for the oncoming holidays!
