There should be a lot of traditional events going on in our festival hall, but Corona has put an end to all of them again. The most traditional is the Salzburger Adventsingen, cancelled for the second year in a row, one week before the opening night. Organizers were livid, which is totally understandable. All the concepts for safe performance have been in vain. If Corona hysterics have a say we will be in another lockdown after New Year. They so love to see people at home. See how this last lockdown worked, they tell us. Numbers dropped, though only slowly. Aha! You must know that the numbers also dropped in countries without lockdown! What a coincidence! Anyway, a local station will broadcast the final rehearsal of the Advent oratorio. My grandfather and father sung there when it was not yet an oratorio. My friend, too, in one of the leading parts even. My husband played in the Stubenmusi. We are tradition-bound to invest in tickets, which are quite pricy, every few years. Last year's tickets got cancelled, we got the money back without a problem. This year we took another involuntary gap year, because when we ordered our tickets they were already sold out. See, people love our Adventsingen! I am not sure if they will love it the coming years, should there be another cancellation! So today at six in the evening I will be glued in front of my TV for almost two hours. Maybe this will raise Christmassy feelings in me. It's about time!
