Precious days of summer
Aug. 19th, 2023 07:05 pmHubby and I decided during lunch to do exactly nothing for the next four days except being lazy (that's mostly my part) and tanning, which is hubby's part, because I do not tan easily but mostly get red as a lobster in boiling-hot water. Next week we'll have to take the brutal fall into autumn. I hate autumn, it's worse for me than winter. Days getting short and shorter, temperatures down is very bad for my morale. I prefer it hot, because I live in the country- technically it's a small town, but with all the greenery around we are priviledged. It's awesome, even when temperatures are skyrocketing- we had 32 today. The sun plopped down behind the mountain range at 6:26- totally not awesome!
Today I got up at seven in the morning, and it was cool outside and quite dark in comparison to the beginning of summer. Hubby was very nice and brought me hot chocolate. After being married to a summer-loving person for 45 years now, he knows what I need at the end of summer! I took a shower then did a bit of tidying up- the boys were here for bathing yesterday, so there were cars to store and kitchenware for small ones to be put back onto the toy kitchen's shelves. Then I jumped into my car- I needed a lot of things which I can get way chesper in Germany. Pharmacy first- I have mislaid my eyedrops, and I won't risk vampire eyes at son's wedding. I did not make it over the German border. First I almost lost it, when I drove by the fire station and the alarm went off. Boy, that siren was loud! After a few kilometres I realised that traffic was bad today. So bad that I turned the car and went back home, only to land in another traffic jam, this one towards the South.
Hubby had prepared lunch, sallad with crispy breaded stripes of chicken, and while we sat at the table Miss Grey came for a visit- pretty but shy. We do not know who's the owner of this cat, but she shows up quite often. This time she went straight into our house, into the conservatory, where she hopped onto a chair and made herself comfortable. Hubby was definitely not amused, but I was!
Rest of the day got spent with swimming and knitting. And having coffee and cookies, of course. Tomorrow we intend to do the same- being lazy, enjoying the sun and the heat. Bedroom windows are all open now, it's getting cooler by the minute, so we won't even have to turn the air con on. I only wish that we'd have had more days like the last ones, but summer was cut short this year!
