Cheered too soon...
Nov. 16th, 2023 05:16 pm First off, I want to thank you for the quick responses to my Christmas cake baking dilemma- I think I will give at least two of the cakes a try, though I will have to exchange raisins for other dried fruit in one of them, or hubby will die eating. Also depends on family number three coming or not. As much as I love Matthäus, and Elsa, too, the parents are quite exhausting. I would not mind if they´d swap Christmas visit for a New Year one, all the more as this family has a big Pre-Christmas celebration with DiL´s family one week before Christmas. I frankly say that Elsa will never learn some sort of modesty, if she gets showered with presents twice. And if not, because she got hers one week early, she will mope all Holy Night long. The thought alone creeps me out- a moping Elsa is a thing to behold, which does not call for repetition.
I was so ecstatic about the new crocheting hook. Now that I have worked with it for the second day, I have to admit that I found a flaw: It´s light, it does not squeak, it slides along smoothly, I can work faster- but it sticks to my fingers as if having spent the night in a jar of sugar. Good for the grip, but bad for my conscience- I washed my hands twice, before I realised that the sticky feeling did not come from my fingers! But the main body of the throw is practically finished, only three rows aren´t done yet. Then slip-stitches around the body and twelve rows of some stitch I have yet to learn on both long sides, and the throw will be finished! Then on to the next one it is...
Almost all Christmas laterns, which are many, got brought down from the attic, their glass is cleaned, their content rearranged, new paper mats got spread on the cabinets they will rest on during the next weeks. Only one lantern needs major renovation, but I mislaid the new Christmas tree and the snowman. I am pretty sure Cassian will find those things, when he will stay with us again. Maybe next week- haven´t heard from DiL since Monday, and from Saturday on we will be in Graz. Two days only, but the coldest we had until now. We might see snow for the first time this autumn- no wonder, to get to Graz we have to drive through the ski region of Schladming!
