Today's problems started in the morning, when I opened the package of meat husband had brought up from the freezer yesterday evening. Because stifado is definitely not made of pork, but beef or lamb. And since I don't do lamb, beef is the only option. Hubby insisted that I had said pork. Haha! Shortly after this intermezzo I went in search for the baking rum I needed for the cake, rum that had been on hubby's grocery list- he was sitting next to me, when he wrote it. No, there hadn't been rum on the list, hubby says. Okay again... Then I asked when family number one and two would come for coffee, just as husband told me yesterday. Hubby was sure that he never had talked about them coming for coffee at all. That was when I had enough. I doubled the amount of rum in the cake, because surely hubby would not have told me that I'd better put less rum than usual into the cream because of our grandchildren, because they would not show up for a slice of Malakoff torte. It's not a children's birthday anyway, though with hubby drifting towards senility it feels like one!
The stifado turned out well, it only took a while longer, until it was ready. No problem, since the family will meet later than expected. Daughter had a meeting in the morning which lasted well after lunch-time, and number two won't get picked up after work by his wife, and guess why- she has still summer tyres on her car, because our Romanian princess did not think hard enough that other people also needed a date at the car repair shop. Hers is next Thursday. And it's snowing. At five all of the family plus neighbours showed up. Cake gone, stifado gone, and two of the umbrellas of our guests gone, too. We are hoping that we will be able to retrive them tomorrow!
