Bittersweet reminiscence
Mar. 1st, 2024 07:03 pm After spending the morning with tidying the conservatory I was quite worked up- those plants inside need to get brought out, but I do not dare yet. Hubby refuses to build them a shelter as he had done the years before. We are at the beginning of March only, so there might be a lot of cold nights ahead- I have to find a solution to the problem- my olive trees are shedding like mad. I will sweep the leaves up, and the next moment the floor will be covered again. No fun at all! What I fear most is that one day one of the puzzle pieces will end up in the organic waste bin- yesterday hubby managed to bring quite a lot of them down to the floor, because he is an expert in dropping things...
In the afternoon my friend arrived, and we did a lot of picture viewing- grandchildren, her daughter, my offspring. When her only child and our number two were about eight, she would come at least once a week for a visit. We rode thunderstorms out on the terrace, son gave extra lessons in maths, her daughter had music lessons with hubby. Then there were those big events like birthday- and Halloween parties my friend attended with husband and daughter. Our contact stopped when friend had a divorce. New home, new acquaintances, an old enemy of hers living in our street by then... Now we are back to good old times, which is a blessing. We will meet again on Monday for a shopping trip and lunch afterwards. Better than having to cook lunch at home then do the shopping- we do not want to end up in a reataurant in the evening, because neither she nor me does dinner in the evening!
Hubby decided that he needed meat for a last batch of bacon- garlic, chilli and whisky this time. Number one must have taken away a big part of the fillets for Oscar, who is hubby´s best client. Well, better than McDonald´s that is! And some time-out for me, when husband dearest drove to our butcher forty kilometres away. Yes, I am very picky when it comes to pork, and this butcher sells the best!
