Decluttering continued
Oct. 12th, 2024 06:28 pm Since hubby and I had decided on soup-only lunch and not much had to be done considering cooking I went downstairs to the cellar to find some things which fit nicely in a bin bag. Guess what? I think hubby is a hoarder- a lot of the things that once belonged to our cats are still here, even though I had put them in front of the house for disposal. Either hubby was not sure if I would bring in a new cat (no, thanks, I am an absolute cat people, but no, thanks, again) or he wanted to bring the carrier and the cat beds to a flea market and forgot about them. Since hubby´s car was packed with cables and old monitors I thought that a bit of cat equipment would look nice in the chaos. When I began to sort out shoes I found that what´s left under the staircase belongs either to husband or daughter. Well, eighty percent are hubby´s. He is the one who orders at least four pair of shoes each year, only that the old ones seem to stick to our house. There´s always a "those aren´t that bad, I can wear them for work in the garden" and so on... But I filled two big bags with old clothes for the charity and half a bag with shoes. now if I will do the same each day for the next months there will be a day when our basement will be cleared of all clutter. I only have to hinder husband mine to bring in new one!
In the afternoon hubby started to prune the thick branches of the prune tree I once thought was a mirabell tree. Of course I know that the mirabelle is a subspecies of the plum, but I went to the nursery for a mirabelle tree specifically. What I got was a two-coloured plum tree which brings forth six purple and yellow plums. The birds love them- until now I only managed to eat one unripe yellow one. I was conducting the pruning from the bedroom window, where I had the best overview.
Then hubby and I wrestled the foldable guest mattress in thick plastic foil. For this I needed a scissor. No kidding- out of the assortment of four scissors in different sizes I bought a month ago exactly one was left in the drawer. Old scissors gone, three of the new ones gone- what the hell! I do not use scissors often- my adhesive tapes are tear-off ones. I usually do not cut paper, the only thing I will cut is soft vegetables and meat, and only if I feel like. Which reminds me that I haven´t seen my kitchen scissors for a while...
Not much got done otherwise: After finishing the Saturday house cleaning (love it, because at the end of the week I have dealt with most of the weekly chores) I continued with the jigsaw (very successfully) and the cardigan-coat. I quit knitting after four rows- will have to find a way to handle five balls of wool simultaneously. I already see how this will end, should the war of balls continue...
