Yuck!

Housework is definitely no fun- yet I spent most of the day doing it. The bathrooms were my business, that's why my fingers have started another row of blisters. Yes, I know, there's rubber gloves available, but by using them I'd get blisters, too, because until now I haven't found a brand I am not allergic to some of the substances. Good thing was that I did not have to cook lunch because of the sausages hubby brought for yesterday's lunch. So we had the creamy gnocchi with chicken Italian style. After napping- I really did nap this time- son number four, who had arrived yesterday evening, and I did Malakofftorte a la MiL, sans butter (yuck, again, even though I love butter) but quark instead. Hubby insisted on a big one, so we sent him off to buy more biscotti. The red currant cake I will do tomorrow morning, it tastes best baked freshly. Sacher torte got made by our favourite cake shop. Son and I also did more Christmas decorating- more baubles, straw stars and the like. The Wachs-Christkindl, decapitated and poorly pieced together, had to go this year, no matter how dear it had been to us once. No more Christwittchen in a glass coffin, I put our tiny old family naivity into the glass box instead.
Daughter sent me a picture- she is at the comic con in Vienna today but will take the train back in the evening. To her astonishment she got the four days around Christmas she had applied for leave approved. In compensation she has to do four early shifts before her leave will start- I fear that tree decorating will get done by us half asleep this year . Hubby will only be allowed to do the tree top- last year he smashed too many baubles, and believe me, I love my baubles! I am already contemplating a smaller tree- two metres instead of two fifty should be enough! BTW, the Christmas tree stalls have opened up already, and people are buying! Strange new world! When I was a child we bought the tree a few days before Christmas. I will always remember the one Christmas, when my father put the tree into the ski stand at the back of our car, which was parked in the Mönchsberggarage. We came back with a tree sans treetop, because the exit tunnel hadn't been high enough- my mother had an epic fit! When I come to consider it- epic fits were my mother's speciality those days before Christmas! Must have been because she had more people than usual to cook for (and was a lousy cook)!
