Definitely strange
Dec. 11th, 2024 06:39 pm Today I waited until hubby was up doing breakfast, then I started my day with a spa moment- nothing better than sit at the table in a fluffy dressing gown, freshly showered, and read the newspaper while having breakfast. Afterwards I wrote the obligatory Christmas cards. It took me a while to notice that it's only four of them this year, and that next year there might be even fewer to write- the Canadian lady, widow to Douglas, a friend of my parents, has been sick for years now. Cancer, as it is often with old ladies. She is 94 now. Not many members of our oversea family are alive anymore, the children of the children of our relatives I have never got to know. Honestly, I write their parents a Christmas card because they will write one, too, but I've seen them only twice, when they did a trip to Europe, and that's all. It feels sort of strange when it's you who is at the upmost stage of life all of a sudden! Where did time go...
After today's after-lunch nap I took the cards and drove to the post office. But I had to be quick- husband needed my car, because today it was DiL number two who needed him to transport the family's Christmas tree. She was, of course, late, as always. Hubby had to wait for half an hour until the family finally showed up, all four of them. No clue why son needed to come with DiL and the boys, he'd surely have preferred to drive back home from work.
Hubby has started the yearly run for the Christmas turkey. We won't get it at the butcher, markets sell mostly small ones and we do not have turkey farms, like those which can be found in the eastern part of the country. Husband mine has been to three shops already- the biggest turkey he found had four kilo- that's two kilos off the goal. As a last resort we might have to do a trip to Lower Austria...
