It´s Oscar night again, and for the first time I am very much tempted to not stay up but sleep through the event. What speaks against this is the fact that the longer I sleep the more tired I get. So I might stay up with popcorn and coke, just like I´d do when in cinema. Blessedly husband mine is not interested in the Oscars- hubby awake at late night is a red flag to me. That man can´t keep still, even though he is running like a Duracell rabbit all day long, while I have succumbed to spring fever- again. Now simply let´s see how this turns out, if habit will win over fatigue. After all I got woken at six thirty in the morning, because vice major´s husband had decided that this was a good time for starting to dig over the composter.
In the morning I did more decorating for Easter, having deliberately omitted the Carnival season. I can live without lampions, confettis and paper streamers. The only thing I adopted from German friends is the increased consumption of salmon, herring salad and the like, which here gets served on Ash Wednesday only. Hubby hopped onto his bike to get catkins for a spring bouquet but came back without- willows have mostly finished their blooming period. All clear, no problem, I will buy catkins in the garden centre. I also know why I have been sneezing so hard the last week (after the virus had backed out).
Then I finally, finally seamed together the eyes for my owl specs case. Well, it´s not a case but a place to store my spectacles so that the glasses won´t get scratched- a soft and silly wool case. I wonder how it can take so long for me to finish this simple task, but my delight in handiworks has gone out the window and does not want to come back! On the contrary, I have eliminated lots of unfinished projects without batting an eye- this has never happened before, but save for one felted bag-to-be, the owl case and a jacket for Elsa (two thirds finished) none of my projects survived the raid. I have to concentrate on other, more urgent things. Next week sister and I will meet for a discussion about the things that will go into the children´s book DiL wants to illustrate. All depends on how much the two of us remember about our father´s youthful escapades together with his two older brothers. Those three boys might not have been exactly what an older couple had wanted for offspring! I have made notes in the afternoon, in between reading fanfiction and a fantasy book. Hopefully sister mine will have memorised more than I have, because I am only up to five tales, albeit memorable ones, of three brothers!
Now that evening is gently rolling in I made it out of the house for the first time today. It´s March already, time to do the last pruning of the apple tree. It´s only three branches that had to go. Plus I thought it was finally safe to cut off the flower heads of the hydrangeas. There´s no noteworthy frost in sight for the next two weeks, only sunshine and up to twenty degrees during day and relatively mild nights! Come on, spring! Do your best!
