Apparently, the game changer (that´s what our chancellor has named the Covid vaccination) is no game changer at all. At the beginning we were told that vaccination against Covid would give us a 90 percent immunity against the disease. And, of course, we´d need a 60 percent vaccination coverage, and all would be well again. Okay, many of us thought, let´s take the chance to get back the life we knew before the start of the pandemic, and did as we were told. Then it was only BioNTech which would provide the proper effect. Beware of Vaxzevria! Not safe enough! Take Johnson! Only one stab! But then: Along came the Delta variant, and everything went down the drain. What do we have now? That´s hard to say, because we´ll never get the right numbers which might reveal the whole dilemma. Vaccination coverage of 60 percent won´t do the trick, we need 80, or more even. At first, we got told that almost all of those who had to be brought to the hospital now had not been vaccinated at all, and in intense care units not a single person had gotten a jab. But from day to day the numbers of those who had been vaccinated twice yet ended up in hospital care grew larger. We are now at 27 percent vaccinated people (if they don´t deceive us once again), numbers still growing. They call it breakthrough infection, and we´ll need another stab soon. And half a year later the next, and the next… with BioNTech or Moderna, what else, because we have bought so much of it. Now guess which vaccine proves more successful against Delta than others? It´s Vaxzevria, the one which is not in use anymore. This weekend six members of our land government got tested positive. All vaccinated with the best of the best, so more completely unexpected breakthroughs we have to cope with, or did those politicians lie to us brazenly and never got their vaccines at all? Already we know that they have not been in contact with each other but with other colleagues. Guess there´s more breakthroughs on the way, and if there are too many, we will all be in lockdown again, and only those with a third stab will be allowed to roam free, and maybe those who had Covid less than half a year ago, because after that time they´ll also have to get their vaccines. And, of course, the closing of schools has begun, three weeks after the start of this school year. It´s primary schools mostly, with children of this age not vaccinated yet, but it´s the relatively high number of teachers who caught the virus that makes me wary…
Hubby had an unexpected Cassian day today, because DiL phoned at eight in the morning if he´d be able to pick up his grandson- at nine. Well, today it was me who had some errands to run, so hubby decided to go to the zoo with the little one. Back home it was sleep then eat then go up to grandma´s bedroom and have chocolate and a video clip. Today it was two of it, because grandma was quite tired, she had been woken by the loudly chattering paper deliverer, who had an urgent conversation with a friend in front of our house for about five minutes- at three thirty in the morning. I was so tempted to inform the complaints office, because it´s not the first time she has done this, and I think that´s a no-go so early in the morning!

We have 75% of the whole population fully vaccinated. But as our official figure for those currently infected is 0.3% of the total population we are mainly ignoring covid and behaving fairly normally, to be honest!

Having said that, a senior school teacher I know reckons the rate amongst the under 15s is a lot higher — but when they get a positive lateral flow test a lot of them just let school know, do their 10 days isolation, and don't bother with the PCR test which is what the government base their figures on. But then the under 15s are all unvaccinated — they are only beginning to vaccinate them on 9th October.

The reality is something like 85% of the adult population are vaccinated and 0.5% of the adult population are currently infected. So we go to the theatre and so on — and hope we are not terribly unlucky....

Mum and I decided to trust Sputnik and didn't ask for the 3rd jab (which would have been Pfizer). We don't socialize much as a rule (this week was actually the first time in 18 months or so), and while I go to choir practice once a week, I do it when the kids (who're getting vaccinated steadily) have already left the building. Other than that, we pray and hope.

I do not know much about PCR tests, but at the moment we are doing a bigger number of tests a week as Germany does (which has ten times more inhabitants), and, of course, there are much more infections found this way. But because people have recognised that there has been a lot of false information going on to portray the situation more dramatic they simply refuse vaccination or wait for inactivated vaccines which are ready to get into action, but don´t get permission yet. No wonder, we have to use up the enormous quantity of BioNTech and Moderna that got ordered a long time ago...

Today´s paper told us that the third round of vaccination has already started (without approval, of course), and that we who had our two rounds already will get a demand note for the third one. Not an invitation, a demand note...Apparently Covid harms the lungs, the vaccination harms the brains of some people.
