I got up at seven, hubby close on my heels, even though he usually won´t get up before seven thirty, had breakfast then left for Aldi. Came back with floating candles and all ingredients for the pear-gorgonzola quiche I will make the next days (this time with walnuts) and a lot of things we won´t need but are nice anyway. I mean, who can live without pumpkin-scented candles or plushy green pillows? Hubby was off, too, and came back with ten kilo of pork for bacon. He was occupied with portioning and brining until lunch time was near. Even used my Korean chilli flakes up- now I will have to drive to the Chinese market, which is far off and also involves pricy parking fees. At least, no cooking had to be done today, we had leftovers for two from yesterday´s family meeting. While hubby was brining I sat and crocheted a bit. I did it only to avoid knitting. Crocheting such a relatively big throw involves a lot of shifting of heavy wool, and since my shoulder is acting up again (I have to question myself one day soon which parts of my body are not acting up the older I get) knitting Elsa´s cardigan would be so much easier on my body- but I still have no clue of how to do the collar. After lunch I sat and looked at winter cardigans, but the only thing I am sure of is that I do not want a hood. My time is running out, Elsa will arrive in two weeks. Then it would be wise to have finished most of the knitting, because that will be one hell of a visit. DiL2 has already consented to lend out her boys, so that Elsa has cousins to play with (and DiL more free time, because when kindergarten as well as school are closed because of autumn holidays, the boys will have to be at homeotherwise, under her supervision- yes, I know that I am cynical). So I have been pondering half-heartedly what to do next. Even added two rows to the upper back of the cardigan. If I had found the second pair of needles number six I could have started the sleeves at least!
Weather is not exactly encouraging to be productive. What started as a nice day soon got fogged up again. I begin to hate the colour grey. Unfortunately that´s also the colour of the cardigan- I wanted Elsa to come off the ever-present pink she is usually wearing. Maybe not the best idea for autumn wear...
Hubby was off after lunch and finally bought the acetone I need for the grey spots on the wooden wall cupboard in the conservatory. Not today´s agenda I told myself and continued wallowing in self pity: fog, cool temperatures (only nine degrees today) and bodily aches will always make me do so. Then there´s the tentative preview of the oncoming winter I read in today´s daily, which might give us freezing temperatures because of this year´s nonexistent polar vortex. To say that I am not amused at such news is an understatement!
