I spent most of yesterday's afternoon typing on my PC. Did salmon baked in puff pastry. Made baked brie. Did trout spread in case daughter's godmother needed something to eat (okay, I know already that she always needs something edible). Went to the conservatory and turned all Christmas lights on- we do so since I was a child. Lighted the candle of the incense burner. Then I had a look at idiot neighbour's house- and the lights were on, son's back. Oh, no! I thought, and I was right. Only minutes later the first bangs were to be heard from neighbour's garden. Godmother and I sat for two hours and talked, I already half asleep, while hubby was watching TV. At some point I listened to what was on the programme and got the shock of my life- my husband, bound to consume crime thrillers only, was watching the last part of Harry Potter! Unbelievable! He said that he really loved the soundtrack of the film. Good. Next time I will watch the movie he can listen to the music and I to the English actors- the German dubbing artists sound horrible! Hubby and I went to bed at one thirty in the morning, after watching the big fireworks up the hill done by a professional pyrotechnician at ten, eleven and at midnight. Fabulous, as always! Idiot neighbour and son continued with the big banging until one in the morning. Another idiot must have started a last attack on New Year at two in the morning, when I just had fallen asleep. While hubby slept on I was wide awake for quite a while. Yet I dutifully got up at eight, had breakfast, did some house cleaning then took a long, hot shower, before I made myself comfortable on the guest couch. A bit of reading, listening to Bach's Christmas Oratorio- things that can only get done when the house is mostly family-free (can't send hubby off out of spite).
Hubby did today's late lunch-early dinner: pork roast with dumplings and cabbage salad. I have to say he did a damn fine job with cooking! Of course, he had to start early, because he always watches the Neujahrskonzert on TV, while I am off like a streak at the first sounds of Strauss valses...
The afternoon and the rest of the day got spent with lazing about- best thing one can do on New Year's Day.
BTW: DiL sent me a cute photo of Cassian watching the fireworks. I have to say that while they do not have a professional pyrotechnician their view is way better than ours!
