And off I went
Feb. 27th, 2026 07:38 pm One of my friends underwent surgery on her vocal cords this morning. To remind me of it (I tend to forget, she has surgery at least twice a year, so it's nothing new) she did a call via Whatsapp at six in the morning- and my phone was not turned to mute. So I got up very early, had a talk, had a shower, prepared breakfast then did a bit of reading, before I dressed and took my car to Germany. Not to my favourite shopping centre I went but to a garden centre for pest control. I do not approve of mealy bugs and spider mites sucking my plants dry! It is harder to get those pesticides beyond the border (one needs consultation), but it's cheaper. Way, way cheaper! Then I went to Aldi for fruits- only to find pears still marked with the Hofer (Austrian Aldi) label, sold one euro cheaper than on our side of the border. This is getting ridiculous...
Back home I quickly hung the washing up on the terrace then made tantanmen ramen. Now I am out of tahini. Will have to call daughter for her to get some from the Chinese shop. Funny that it's still not as expensive as in our grocery shops.
Our dailies are full of articles about the new restraints and customs duties concerning shopping at Shein and Temu. Lots of people are applauding- I just want to see their faces when they notice that the products they buy in the shops here will be pricier from July on- no wonder, because they have come and will come from China, too. Did those people really think that merchants won't pass higher prices on to their clients?
Hubby had opted for picking the boys up after after-school care. The three vacuumed my car (okay, hubby did the vacuuming, the boys crawled along the seats in search of hidden treasures, such as lost coins), while I prepared a snack. At four thirty we had had snack (Greek cookies and blueberries), had decorated another Easter tree and read two children's books I bought today, Cassian doing most of the reading. He's getting quite good at it! Good for me, because I suffered from not enough sleep then- and it won't get any better, because with the light coming on early the boys are getting up earlier, too. And hubby can't find the sun-moon clock he has stored away safely- if only he remembered the safe place!
