What´s wrong with me? Over the years I have developed a phobia concerning female characters in books. Don´t know how and why, but it happened, obviously. Most often it commences when a book in which male characters are in the majority, introduces a female protagonist, usually well equipped with maidenly/ terrible/ exotic beauty (insert correct word) and sublime wit. Or in case of Arwen, unfortunately not, or she would have made her choice, let´s say, with her brain instead of her heart, chosing immortality, having a few kids with Aragorn and zooming off to Valinor after her husband´s demise, or even earlier, if her marriage would take a disagreeable course, as it often does among mankind. I cannot remember a passage that ordered her to vacate Middle Earth immediately after her choice.
I was going through the roof when in Storm Constantine´s Wraeththu the Kamagrian´s came out of nowhere, the obligate  we-are-better-and-more-clever-than-Thiede´s-progeny-because-we-derive-from-women written across their pinched faces. Opalexian, I openly declare war to you! You are a disruptive element in a quite entertaining book, as useful as a hole in the head and only stirring up conflict. And yes, I am a witch, so be afraid, very afraid! Currently I am reading the Hexenhammer to avoid the mistakes that led to my ancestors´ exposure and subsequent elimination. Kidding aside, the Hexenhammer is no laughing matter. Thank heavens I´m no Catholic!
The Eternal Dungeon is a very interesting historical fantasy series, in a setting dominated by men, in a place where psychologists wield whips, the author announces. So when the first female Seeker was introduced, I was like wtf  oh my God, what is she doing here? Not that she is unlikeable, she only doesn´t fit into my version of the story! Plus she is the only psychologist without a whip, because female Seekers aren´t allowed to torture their, sure thing, female prisoners! Where is the emancipation in that?  Apropos! I was about proposing the book to my daughter. Fortunately I read a bit further! Good lord! There are passages that made even me blush like a maiden! Maybe she´ll better wait a few years...
