That figures!

Pentecost Sunday and Monday have been the hottest days of the year till now, days one should spend at the swimming pool, reading and enjoying the hot weather as each and everybody who had one did, save me- I was sitting in my kitchen, doing the housework, peeling potatoes, frying sausages and chopping salad for six- up to the moment son no. 2 and his fiancee decided it was about time to paint the bureau they had acquired at a flea market- two years ago, since then the monstrosity had been stored in our garage, hubby´s car banned to the outside. Up to that moment we were eight, but a short time later son no. 1 came with his little family, too. Ten adults and a babe, that´s a challenge for those who have to supply meals and beverages. That´s the situation on Sunday, and Monday was the same. Summer is short-lived here, often non-existent, or taking place in June only, without any one knowing it beforehand. I was hopping mad. My sister should have picked up my mom on Sunday for a trip to Switzerland. She did it on Thursday, because the weather was too hot for her (my mother) to travel, she said. That´s a blatant lie, I´d say, because mum sat outside for three days, baking in the sun and enjoying herself very much, which is good, considering her poor health. Sister once again proved to be selfish enough to postpone fixed dates in her favour, and went swimming instead. Son no. 4 should have left for Vienna on Sunday, too, to visit his older brother, and attend a rock festival afterwards, only that he changed his plans and stayed at home till Thursday, while son no. 3 in Vienna packed his rucksack and went home instead (too hot in his flat, no pool close by). So on Thursday the worst part was over- plus the weather had changed. Instead of 36 C degrees we had 16, it was raining, and according to the long-term weather forecast it will stay this way, with temperatures mostly below 20 degrees, until the end of- listen to this- July! Huzzah! Did I just miss the sole longer lasting heat wave, looking after my family?
