Is it the weather, or...
Nov. 20th, 2014 06:58 pmThe last weeks had been atypically warm for autumn, foehn blowing my brainpan away rather creating spring mood than autumn cold. Now the weather has changed, still no snow, no freeze, bit of rain only, the olive- and palm trees still reside outside, on the terrace instead of being deported to the cellar, to live a live without sunshine for the next months and come back dying and will stay there till the end of November, when hubby will raise our electricity bill by brightening our house with Christmas lighting.
My yearly autumn depression went into in full swing mode after a short trip to Youtube, where I found a few clips about elves, and a great musical version of "A Elbereth Gilthoniel" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbU0n8E4Hcc . Not exactly the kind of music that will cheer you up! Afterwards I went in search of Glorfindel -fanfiction I had not read yet. Found some, autumn depression reared its head once again.
That´s when it hit me hard: come December, I´d have to say my Last Goodbye to Peter Jackson´s version of Middle Earth, and though I´ll travel to Down Under next summer, to join my daughter in our personal Middle Earth trip sans Elves before she returns to good old Europe, there´s the distinct feeling of loss that there will be no moreorc slaying exploring my favourite fantasy setting in the near future. So many stories left untold, because Jackson´s fantasy running wild came into conflict with Tolkien´s heirs, those naturally prohibiting further adulteration of the professor´s oeuvre! If I had my way Jackson would have the License to maul all what is screenable of the Silmarillion, as long as I get to see those Fëanorians in full height as well as action. "Here´s a sight I´ve never seen before" would not nearly describe my awe of those fantastical creatures! Alas, there will be no additional Silmarillion flashbacks, something that Jackson had initially contemplated but had been prohibited, for reasons given above.
To cheer me up, hubby has been in town to buy the extended edition of The Desolation of Smaug, which I will watch now instead of watching TV. Now let´s hope that the extended edition is not that extended, I have to be up and running at 5:30 tomorrow!
