Don´t get sick after 12 am
May. 22nd, 2015 07:00 pmStart of work is usually two am for me, that´s when students have finished lunch and homework and are ready for musical training, even those who are in special-care institutions. Yesterday I had to pay a visit to my doctor before work, because I had caught another cold from hell and needed medication. Doctor was not amused when he heard my cough and immediately gave me a sick note. I told him that this would not work, because there was no compensatory teacher available that quick. Besides, I did not that feel bad. Doctor was not used to get a rebuff and decided to personally call my headmaster. Headmaster told him that- sicknote aside- I had to show up at school because of the twelve o´clock rule: if you intend to stay away from work because you are sick you have to announce it before twelve o´clock. Doctor was livid, but I told him not to stress himself too much, the rule was made for those who are brought for training from special-care institutions. These children have often reacted with temper tantrums when their teacher did not show up. And if I would show up for those children, I had to teach the others, too, because you can´t be sick for only one part of the students, you´ll have to be sick for all- which (now we are going round in circles) in my case wasn´t possible because of the twelve o´clock rule. So I spent an afternoon in school, coughing like mad, drove to the pharmacy in the evening, to get my meds, and spent a night with even more coughing. Today was my day off and now there´s Pentecost, with schools closed till Wednesday, so cough has plenty of time to buzz off. Now what I wonder is if I am allowed to drive a car after taking all those alcohol-containing cough medicine (and I´m glad that I´m no reformed alcoholic, or I´d suffer a relapse)! After all, it´s "Don´t drink and drive" for all!
