So son number 4 will get his leaving certificate tomorrow evening. To say he´s passed with flying colours would be a blatant lie. The written tests had been fairly good, two straight A´s, one B and a C in maths, which had been his angst-subject for many years. So all done and dusted? Fine it would have been, were this the case, but there´s also an oral exam to pass, in physics, and this one was a tight squeeze. There are many possibilities to fail: You are not inclined to spend more than one hour a day learning. Check! You are hellbent on studying a 400 page script on your smart phone only. Check! You get the crap card by drawing three exam questions you would not wish on your worst enemy. Check, again! A combination of all three might be lethal and change your academic career. Fortunately son bumbled through and everything is fine now, the bags are packed, Nova Rock is waiting. In about a week son will be back, smelly and dirty because no one there ever uses the shower, and sunburnt, because manly men do not sleep in a tent during night but in the open by day only, when the sun is burning down, and nights are made for music and drinking. Son has been damned lucky that his class was the first one to finish the finals, the others aren´t that fortunate and will not be able to attend the rock festival! The breaking up of the class has already begun, the serious side of life aka alternative service is looming, so it´s a must to squeeze in as many joint activities as possible into the weeks of summer, who knows what the future will hold! Wish me luck, in three weeks I´ll be on my way to NZ, to do a month of travelling around with my daughter, and I fear that by then our house will have turned into a youth hostel, and hubby will have to fight a running battle with furious neighbours!
