It´s Three kings Day here, an official holiday in our country, the last day of the Christmas holidays and one we celebrate by feasting together and baking Rosca de Reyes with a tiny figurine of the Christ child in it. The one who gets the piece with the figurine will play host to next year´s celebration, and yes, it´s me again. Don´t know how I once again managed to get said piece of the cake. It´s a less than 10 percent risk that one has the piece with the baby infant, but I´ve hit the jackpot for the third time in a row. At least this year hubby and daughter-in-law-to-be were of great assistance, because you can´t shape a yeast dough with a damaged finger. When all of us were full and ready to take a digestive nap, mum discovered I had forgotten to release the three kings from their prison. I usually confine them to the sheepfold where the cats won´t get them. Namo and Vaire are not dumb: when there´s a figurine put in front of the crib they do not touch it, because the owner of the crib will hunt them down and take away their plaything, which includes a lot of swearing, unsuitable for sensitive cat ears. Put the figurine at the back of the crib, and chances are you won´t find it before Easter, when it´s spring clean time. Last year´s Balthazar only resurfaced when I mopped the floor in the wintergarden, and there he was, buried under the carpet under the bench seat. Technically we now have Balthazar I and II, because when the first one went missing I bought a replacement, so Balthazar I is degraded to goose watching now. Crib and Christmas tree (ha, I´d like to see that) will stay until 2nd of February as it is tradition here, the rest of the decoration will wander into our cellar if I feel like it. Only elks and gnomes are allowed to stay till the end of winter!
