Mar. 25th, 2016 12:35 pmThis night I woke a few times because of noises coming from outside, a pitter-patter of feet on the wintergarden´s roof, so it seemed. Well, hello marten, I thought. There are many of those furry creatures out in the gardens around, because everyone here has a shed where martens have space and peace to live and breed. They are not shy at all, wandering across the lawn by daylight, spreading terror among the neighbouring cats. My cats are indoor cats - usually. This night´s Tour de Loo taught me better. Son of mine had taken a bath in the upper bathroom late in the night, which always involves a lot of hot water and and a lot of steam, so he opened the bathroom windows a tiny crack. There´s a window chain on those which ensures that the cats won´t get through the gap to have a heyday in the gardens next to the main street, or, more precisely, the chains should ensure the cats won´t leave the house. It´s for their safekeeping only, because there´s a lot of cats you´ll find dead along the street. Till this day we knew that Vaire cat is able to open all of our doors (even those with the handle mounted downward), and all of our drawers, even those with magnetic locks. Since tonight we also know that she is able to open the window chains. That was no marten on the roof, what I heard was the frolicking of my cats as they scrambled about on the roof of the house. Now how to get Namo and Vaire inside again in the darkness of night! That was the easiest part: go downstairs, take the Dreamies out of the locked cupboard, run upstairs, rattle the box- et voilà, two cats will dash back into the bathroom. See, sometimes advertising does indeed tell the truth! The only thing I had to do now was give the cats a few goodies, close the windows and write a notepad for the rest of the family to properly close the windows. In summer I will have to mount fly screens to avoid disaster, because talking to Vaire about her burglary-and escape skills won´t do the trick!
