Decolourizer works in mysterious ways...

Together with my grandson Oscar I put my new washing machine to another test: first time easy to clean wash cycle, objects under test: summer clothes which have been stored in various wardrobes in the hope that one day this year summer will finally strike - well, summer does strike, for usually one day, to be gone the next, so nobody really missed those pieces of clothing, that´s good, indeed, because Oscar apparently did not take my advice seriously to only put those clothes in the drum which I had put next to the washing machine but angled for his aunts newly bought white bra with the red bow on it- and yes, that´s the only red thing that made it into the washing machine! Maybe he deemed the bra the only object worthy to undergo the washing process, but the tiny red bow an inch tall did a very good job in colouring some other garment, thank heavens I had not put it in the whites laundry! Though most of the clothes came out unscathed hubby´s olive shorts and daughter´s beloved jumpsuit had big red spots all over the fabric. Hubby raced to the drugstore to buy decolourizer, I dissolved the powder in warm water, put the clothes into the bucket- and promptly had a fit. The blue flowers on the jumpsuit immediately turned into a bright violet, and hubby´s shorts now were a deep auburn. I did a bit of swearing, closed the lid for roughly an hour, then checked up again: violet had turned unto a dull grey with black spots, auburn into a light brown. An hour later I got a jumpsuit with bright green flowers, the black was still black, and sand-coloured shorts, that´s when I emptied the bucket into the sink, rinsed the clothes and put both on the rack, or hubby would have to wear white shorts matching his chest hair. Daughter who had been devastated when I told her about the incident finds the outcome of my decolourizing experiment quite interesting and likes the newly green flowers. I am not so sure about hubby´s shorts though I have to admit that the red spots are all gone. Tomorrow I will take a picture of daughter´s old "new" jumpsuit, and hopefully there´s some picture of her wearing it when the flowers were still blue, kind of a memento of better days!
