Crete, we are on our way! Minotaur, you might feel the need to go into hiding! Daughter mine insists on exploring the Minoan palace of Knossos for the third time. At her first visit she had been only four, and hubby and I had to retrieve her from places no visitors were allowed to enter, no matter how hard we tried to keep her in rein. Fortunately she did not have her crayons with her to give some of the paintings in there the finishing touch, or we as parents would still have to pay for the restauration, or worse, spend our time in a Greek prison for letting our little one cause havoc. I´m still keeping her minotaur drawings in store she had been drawing for days on end, together with a ball of yarn and a wooden sword made by herself for the killing of the beast.
Hubby bestowed me the trip as a birthday present and as compensation for the many hours I spent proofreading number three´s second master thesis. Last week has been the most unnerving week of my life. Never do a proofreading when the two parties use different operational programmes. Had I known this I would have done it the way I had done with number two´s thesis: one page at a time, send this one back and wait for the next one, while son can do repair work and add the page to the completed ones. This time coloured markings did never make it to the other side, formatting went down the drain each time I tried to correct a mistake, and we ended up phoning for four hours to get the correcting done. I still have sore muscles because of having to hold my mobile such a long time!
Now I will have to do the packing, after all we have to leave in the early morning! Daughter is a clever girl, she has already packed two cardigans and a windbreaker, while I am still searching for mine. She at least is aware of our family´s doom: wherever we go for holiday, the cold is not far off!
