Game of Thrones versus Lord of the Rings
Jan. 25th, 2020 09:01 pmSons number one to three have been bitching about Game of Thrones since season seven appeared on TV. I cannot comment on the series, because I stopped watching somewhere among series three. Too bloody, too much violence, and as soon as I felt connected to one of the characters this one got killed off, which happened at least every second show, so no character bonding was possible. I do not know if I simply tried to bond with the wrong characters, but the ones who survived had never been on my favourite list. The Silmarillion, encompassing a long period in fictive time with lots of battles, treason and homicide, is a children´s book in comparison. I just could not cope with so much bloodshed and quit watching, while my sons were delighted. At first. Something must have changed during time. Apparently it was not the death toll, which must have gone through the roof at times- it was, as son said, something like illogical development of the story. Maybe the producers should have shot more slowly, so that the author was able to keep up with writing the book (to make a film from a thrilling book seems to be easier, at least the movie maker can blame the author if the show does not work the way it should). Yesterday number three sent me this. It plausibly explains what many viewers must have felt when watching Game of Thrones to the bitter end:
