Hubby may be helpful, but more than once I have been thinking that maybe his professional work as a musician may have affected his logical thinking. See, if you work, you usually clean up the mess you have created. That he does. Sometimes. And if you work with things that are smelly you have to be even more careful, to keep the mess away. Mhm.. .(that´s the shortcut for "if you think so" in German). So helpful hubby drove to son number two, who will inherit my mum´s house the day he´s got money enough to pay his brothers off, to help him pump out the septic tank that had been in use when the house had no connection to the wastewater system. It had been in use for two years at the longest then sank into obscurity. It was hubby who did a revival of the septic tank by deciding it was about time to pump it out for good and all then fill it up with gravel. No sooner said than done, hubby took a hose and a pump, and off he went. He came back a bit subdued, and that´s the reason why: husband dearest was dirty, he was tired, so he snatched the hose and simply put it into the back of his car, completely forgetting to hose it out, which might have been helpful after having worked with what once had been poop-contaminated. After almost 40 years of decomposition there was no poop left, but the final product was still smelly, and it was now in the back of his car. And because it was so cold and rainy hubby was not able to clean the car boot out, so no one wants to sit in his car until that stench of doom is gone. Today was the first day without raining nonstop, and hubby has been wiping and vacuuming then wiping again. The car is still smelly, less than before, but a few days with heat and sunshine and an open hatchback to air the stench out might come in handy!
Hubby is also very fond of children- that´s why we have five. He adores our grandchildren, and since Elsa and her family came for a week of vacation in Hotel Mama he was out of the house like greased lightning to get his arms around the little one. Well, Elsa was not amused, and took off away from him- and ended up in a puddle of water. We have enough of these now that it more or less has been raining for four days. I heard the newspaper deliverer loudly complaining about the lake-like puddles she had to cross, to get to our post box- at four in the morning, directly beneath our bedroom window! That kept me awake for quite a time, and just when I was dozing off again, our neighbours found out that the heavy rain of the night had made it into their cellar, which ended up in a lot of ruckus like feet stomping, people shouting, a pump running and finally me making coffee at half past six in the morning- on a holiday at that! I turned on the washing machine with Elsa´s outfit in it and hung it out on the terrace, because they had promised sunshine. Yeah, the sun has been shining, for about three hours. Now guess what the weather is like outside! We have a nice thunderstorm, and it is pouring again. I do not even want to know what this year´s summer will bring, or I might go through the roof!
