Well, hello, goodbye, summer weather
Jun. 23rd, 2020 08:38 pmMay has been awfully wet and cold here. June was almost the same, except for some stray warm days. We had to turn the heating on these last three days, and ceiling lights were on all day long. 12 degrees outside, rain aplenty- did not feel like June but late October. So when weather forecast reported a heatwave on the horizon, hubby practically ran in search of the mislaid remote for air conditioning- and finally found it. That alone should have started warning bells ring in my head, because the moment you find the thing you have been looking for odds are you won´t need it anymore. Yet the prospect of hot days was so very pleasing for me, after so much rain, garden full of snails and my vegetables practically rotting away. When morosely watching the heavy rain outside I saw a huge marten climb up our neighbour´s trellis and disappear under the roof of the porch- in broad daylight. Must have had enough of getting soaked to the bone while hunting and took an early nap instead. Just wait, I thought, soon the weather will get better and there´ll be lots of frolicking on the roof of our conservatory done by you and your mate, to keep me awake for most of the night. I should have known better. After this first nice warm day another low pressure zone in the upper atmosphere will effectively block higher temperatures and bring strong winds and new thunderstorms with even more rain. And when this one´s finally ready to leave, the next cold front lies in the wait. What a summer! Because of my frustration about the weather I totally forgot to sew the buttons on Elsa´s new dress and sweater, a project I started during Covid-based confinement. May do so tomorrow then drive to the post office and send the parcel to number three.

Cats are doing relatively well, though both have lost weight. Namo suffers from a hyperfunction of the thyroid and has to take meds twice a day, if we are able to get hold of him. The moment he sees me coming with the syringe he takes off like a rocket. Vaire is simply picky and would love to get served at two hourly intervals. Seems that hunting meat meant for the tin openers is more interesting than eating the content of the tin. Another chicken schnitzel lost to those rascals! That´s the two of them, watching and waiting...
