It has been so cold the last three days that hubby had to reactivate heating. 13 during day, 10 during night is way too frosty for early August. To be honest, I cannot remember a year we had to heat at least twice each month of summer. But now weather forecast announced another heatwave rolling in. A likely story! Last heatwave lastet for two days exactly. It was hot then, but two hot days won´t save this summer, and if you look four days ahead you´ll see the next thunderstorms looming ahead. I so hate thunderstorms! The last one brought water enough to flood parts of our cellar, and it also made short work of the freshly sprung leaves of my already half-dead gingko. I had been so happy about the tree getting better! On Saturday, in anticiopation of the cold weather coming in and hubby off to a meeting with his siblings I cleared our terrace and put away the new kiddy pool. Good grief, this one is a big one! Son and I carried it to the guestroom. And just when everything was in place, daughter-in-law arrived, to take a swim. And, of course, baby needed his pool, too. I still wonder how DIL was able to bring it out with a baby on her hips, while son and I fiddled around for a while to get it in! Punishment followed swiftly, because soon after DIL stepped on a wasp and got stung, which cost me my last onion, and a few minutes later she got the thorn of a rose in her foot. It did not help that this one belonged to our neighbour. DIL zoomed off slightly agitated, and I began to store the pool away a second time, which was about time, because soon after the almost daily light show from above set in again.
Today´s my sister´s birthday, her 60th, so a special present has to be retrieved, when she comes for a visit next week. I have scanned quite a lot of slides our dad took, when we were very young. I framed a photo of the two of us together with mum, one of the few moments we were not fighting, but the main present will be a voucher for a restaurant, if I find one I think she´d like to go together with her husband. Her husband likes to eat local cuisine, which tastes bland, sister wants it hot. Now it´s her birthday, but I won´t let Mr. D fall ill with chilli poisoning, as he did the day he tasted our Korean cooking, even if daughter and I had halved the amount of chili peppers.
Next time Elsa is on visit I will borrow her for a visit to the local zoo. We do have penguins now! Penguins! Last year we tried to locate some of them in the wilds of NZ, but my overloud coughing must have scared them off, we never saw one, not even in surefire breeding sites, in the evening, when those little fellows are supposed to move to their domicile. Now all we need is a mini colony of seals, and I will spend many a midmorning in the zoo, watching those animals plowing through the water, as a replacement for travelling to my friends on the other side of the globe, a journey I will no more be able to repeat, because miracles concerning Corona won´t happen easily.
