Oh dear, Alexa, again...
Nov. 18th, 2020 08:04 pmToday morning: Alexa blares all of a sudden. A notification has arrived: a parcel will be delivered this day. Okay, one parcel was supposed to arrive on Thursday, a second next monday, but hey, the first Christmas present is about to come into our house, and since we cannot shop as usual, many more will follow its way. A few minutes later: parcels are here, two of it, and just now the deliveryman (without facial mask as is mandatory) wants hubby to sign the receipt voucher. Hubby tells him that parcels are to be deposited at the appointed place of delivery in the garden shed, signature not required in times of Covid. Deliveryman off, Alexa blares yet again. Now she wants to tell us that at Christmas time she will not spill the content of the parcels delivered, and if we want to change this adjustment. That´s fine with me, because I do not want hubby to know the things I have ordered for Christmas for our family, nor what he himself will get for his birthday. So no, we don´t. Finally Alexa shuts up, and I am about to enjoy my breakfast when the digital nuisance starts another tirade. Now we get asked to rate our orders, specifically I am asked to rate mine, because the list she rattles off consists of the books I have ordered on Amazon Kindle. I listen in wonder, yup, definitely my books, and mine alone. Hubby is all ears, and I tell that damn thing to shut up, and fast. Hello, since when did I grant this digital wonder access to my Amazon account? I have not even uploaded the app! Hubby has, and in no way my account is linked to his, God forbid! Everyone needs a bit of privacy! I have to admit I am a bit flabbergasted now. After I had told Alexa to get lost she did not talk to me anymore, thank heavens for small mercies. Now I am searching for a way to prohibit this scandalous behaviour of hubby´s beloved tin tube. After today, I think he loves Alexa even more, because he has been granted insight into his wife´s reading list, albeit against her will. Anybody out there who knows a solution to this problem?
