I tried to phone my eye doctor, to get some prescription for my conjunctivitis. She´s on vacation. I tried the same with our family doctor. She´s on vacation, too. So hubby drove me to a pharmacy, not the one I usually go to. They would not give me any eye drops but wanted me to call 141 for medical emergency service. Next thing they suggested was the use of the emergency room in our local hospital. That I found a tad too exaggerated. Eyes are way better today, at least I now know how the money gap in our country´s health budget comes into being. We did the thing we should originally have done- we drove to daughter-in-law number one, who lives two minutes away and fortunately was at home. She put on shoes and coat, jumped into our car, and five minutes to twelve (that´s when all pharmacies here close for midday break) she showed the pharmacist her medical ID and got the drops she uses on herself in case her eyes look the way mine do at the moment.
On the way back home husband mine stopped at a shop to buy vegetables for lunch. I stayed in the car, no one needs a vampire wandering around in search of food. It was about 12:20 when I felt a slight vibrating of the car, just the way it jolts when I wait at a heavily trafficked crossroad to be able to branch off, and some juggernauts pass by at a high speed to avoid a stop because of red traffic lights. Some people in the parking lot had stopped, too, so apparently something had happened out there. I do not know how long the tremor lasted, only that it felt so strange that I wanted to get out of the car, the picture of those sinkholes they show on TV before my eyes. Just when I dropped the mobile to jump out everything got calm again. I was unsure then about what had happened. Had mother nature talked to us, because sometimes she does exactly this. Turned out that she had, indeed. Two hours later news reported of a heavy quake in Croatia which could be felt in parts of Europe. Compared to the big quake in the Friuli region so long ago, where the doors of all our cabinets had begun to rattle like mad and people dashed out of the houses, this one felt like a gentle breeze, yet one that gave those who had felt the tremor of the Earth´s crust an uneasy feeling in their guts. Me, too. I think that all things you sense but cannot classify will do this to you. I am so very grateful that we have no serious quakes where I live! That surely would bring me to my grave, I am a chicken when it comes to things like these!
