Mar. 24th, 2021 12:17 pmSnow has mostly thawed off. It was a nice ten on the thermometer today and made me feel somewhat apprehensive, because, you know, warm weather and no rain means the trees are sending of their pollen again, and of course, at midday the first bout of sneezing hit again. Better sneezing than freezing, I´d say! There will be a day when there´s no more pollen sailing around!
Easter might be as chastened as last year´s one. Plan was: shops and schools closed in the east of the country. What we get is: shops indeed closed in eastern Austria, but many of those who live in the East will go west for skiing and hiking, because it is way too easy to find a lodging though there should be none, the westerners will be upset because they get on poorly with those haughty easterners (not! the ones from the former GDR), and in between will be many, way too many from other countries who exhaust our registering system. Some villages got more than 50 new regristrations of secondary residences for Easter - per day. The whole dilemma started three weeks ago, when it was clear that some countries intended to tighten lockdowns. A small flat has 17 people registered for the Holy Week. Funny thing is that everything is legal by EU law. You cannot block those who travel to their secondary residences, even though it´s a mock registered address mostly. And because our governors in the west do not want so many new people catching or spreading the virus they do what they are enabled to do: they put more and more villages under quarantine and demand a valid covid test for entering those. This is madness, because now the west has practically more restrictions than the eastern part of the country. In the east people won´t be able to shop, but they can go back and forth between places. In the western part you will have to stay at your place or do a testing to be able to cross the village´s border, if you are less fortunate. That´s pure madness! In case our town will suffer this fate I won´t be able to go to my favourite shops nearby but will have to tour across town. Not funny at all!
For the first time hubby has bought a box with fruits and vegetables not pretty enough to be sold regularly. I think it is a good idea to sell these articles to a lower price than usual instead of disposing of them in a garbage bin. Besides, it was fun to try new recipes with vegetables I usually won´t buy. I´m not a friend of greens, but green beans and eggplants weren´t that bad. As long as hubby won´t bring boxes with broccoli and cauliflower all is well!
