No Hannelore

Hannelore has not returned until now. I have been contacting all those in the neighbourhood who have a biotope or pond, but so far no one has seen the turtle. This hot weather will do her no good, I hope she has found a water to her liking. I have to admit that I was too lazy to look into our own biotope, but hubby took a stick and stirred up the mud on the bottom. No Hannelore in hiding, what he found was a giant toad. At least I know that it´s not only the neighbour´s pond those toad sounds come from during night. I like toads, we always had one or two when we had the bigger biotope that had to go when the new pool got installed.
We had no Cassian duty on Friday and will not have on Monday, because the family is off to a friend´s house in Vienna. Running after a two year old with 33 degrees outside is not top of my wishlist. It will be hot enough next Wednesday, though not as hot as the last days so that we won´t have to be outside in the water to cool down. We have to be after the little one practically at all times, or he will try to get into water deeper than his own baby pool´s one. He does not understand he is not allowed to do so without grandpa or grandma. When daughter mine was peacefully snoozing on a sun lounger hubby and I decided to have coffee at the opposite bar. Number four agreed to watch her and keep her away from the water. Mind that it was not a very big pool, and we were able to keep an eye on her all the time. Before we even had gotten our coffee daughter woke, waved at us and jumped into the water. Instant commotion- people jumped into the water, too, to save her, we ran also. And what did daughter do? She calmly paddled towards the ladder and climbed out. She was two and a half then. One year later she dived down two meters to bring up the things hubby had thrown into the pool. Another year later hubby had the worst shock of his live, when he was about diving down to the coral reef in full gear and did a short peek to the ocean´s surface- daughter was following him downwards, though without equipment. This at least had not been my fault, because I was on the way to Kairo then. Even Mamas need some time out! Daughter was a fairly good swimmer though she never did train. None of my grandchildren takes after her. Oscar is still not able to swim, and the rest enters the water with so many floating aids that the donning alone must be sheer torture, which makes bathing and swimming quite uncomfortable. When I was about eight my father encouraged me to swim with him across the bay, but we were not able to get out on the other side because of hundreds of sea urchins, so back to the other side it was. No problem for me then. I think I will no more be able to swim the same distance now.
Soreness of my arm is almost gone, my friend will be very disappointed at such an unremarkable outcome. Our government has donated one million vaccine doses to the Western Balkans. Already the opposition parties scream blue murder, because we do not yet have enough of it to vaccinate those who opted for the procedure. Wouldn´t it be good if those who want to represent the interests of the state have to take an intelligence test first?
