For days I thought that it´s the toad living next to our tiny pond which makes those awful noises during night. So I began to trawl through Youtube this afternoon under the supervision of Cassian. Definitely a no for the toad but a yes to- ta-da- the magpie. We have a fairly large magpie population this year. Apparently magpies are strongly attached to their brood, especially when the first clutch died (perfectly possible during such a spring way too cold). With so many cats the magpies are bravely defending their nest even during night, unfortunately with much ado that keeps us awake. Blessedly at some point the nestlings should be off and we will be able to sleep through the night again. Bad enough that the rooster up the hill seems to be on high alert all night long and craws from two in the morning on, and some days earlier even! Then again, isn´t it a bit late for a second brood? Maybe it´s the third or forth already. Weather has been very wet and cool this year...
Cassian is now perfectly able to cross the pool with arm floats only, with a bucket in each hand which he loves to empty over my head. I will so miss this game (haha!)... We had a last pool day with him today, though in the early afternoon the wind began to freshen and we are supposed to have a thunderstorm in the evening and cool weather for the rest of the week and the next one. Number two sent us a video clip he had taken the day before, where his son happily things along a song where monkeys try to locate a coconut. When he came up the line where the thief of the coconut was wanted Cassian cried ´Elsa has stolen it!´ Video is hilarious, but poor Elsa, so far away yet always made responsible for all mishaps, like stolen coconuts or broken toys!
Not much knitting done today. Not that I am not able to knit and watch my grandson at the same time, problem is that Cassian loves those five shiny needles and tries to get hold of them. I fought that battle for about a quarter of an hour then hid the knitted cap on a high shelf, because the little one knows how to operate step stools...
