Until today´s lecture of a daily I did not know that at one time Nicholas was feared. But in the 18th century the prince-archbishop of Salzburg found a perfidious way to unmask protestants who pretended to be Catholics, the only way they were able to stay in their home country. The prince-archbishop sent his spies in the guise of Nicholas and watched the children in the families pray the way they were used to and uncovered the Protestant families this way. Perfidious indeed!
DiL will follow her home country´s tradition- Nicholas will not show up in person but will put the presents and sweets in the little one´s shoes. Grandson was hard to tame today. He was so hoping to get to see a Krampus, yet when hubby showed him a picture he got a bit subdued. A Krampus is not a pretty sight, and even more for young children who fear inflatable crocodiles. Son has arranged with our neighbour that he will tinkle his cowbells at six in the evening, to create an authentic Krampus feeling. I think that will be brouhaha enough. Not that Cassian will spend this night and the next ones in his parents´ bed because of bad dreams!
Now that they have left I am up in the studio, listening to Stubnmusi. Daughter has done such music professionally. I, too, together with my students. Maybe I should stop listening, it adds to my melancholy...
