Kimchi feasts ahead
Feb. 25th, 2022 07:42 pmSince the prices at our Chinese shops went up like a rocket I decided to do a batch of kimchi myself. Have done it once already, yet the outcome was not satisfactory. But I am no more ready to pay four Euro for half a kilo kimchi- and it´s not even to my taste. Since I had all ingredients at home save for the Chinese cabbage I sent hubby on a mission: capture two heads of it- you´d think one would get Chinese cabbage easily in shops at this time of the year, but far from it- and make me happy. Hubby brought four heads, to be on the safe side, which meant a lot of plastic bowls with salted cabbage blocking the kitchen for quite a time. I have to admit that it was a bit messy in the kitchen afterwards, but I ate a first batch with rice this evening, and my kimchi tastes way better than the bought one. There´s a lot of plastic containers blocking my kitchen counters at the moment, and I am very happy that we have two more fridges in the cellar. I hope there´s space enough for chopping tomorrow. I will do my famous cabbage soup, which has almost as much mincemeat as cabbage in it, because DiL has gifted me two heads of selfmade sauerkraut plus I will add a head of fresh cabbage.
Sunday will be very hectic again. Number one and two will come with their families, and number four and five are here already. We haven´t seen number one since before Christmas. At first the annoying hand, foot and mouth disease that took forever and kept him away, and then Covid, which took longer than expected for all members to go through. Hubby invited all for lunch, the equivalent of dinner, because none here eats in the evening on weekends. I have evacuated the dollhouse and other delicate toys. Xaver is what one would call a destroyer. He´s clumsy yet very strong. There´s always a good chance that toys won´t survive when he gets his hands on them...
