Midsummer

This time in June has always been my favourite time of the year, when I was younger. Better than holidays, better than Christmas. There had been Mum's birthday on the 21th, which always got celebrated with a lot of pomp. If the weather was fine there´d be the bonfires on the mountains- see, where Peter Jackson got his idea from! With the tops of the mountains alight the whole alpine setting became more bearable- you see that my love for mountains is not a big one! Then there was the anticipation of another roadtrip ahead- my sister and I got allowed to leave school one or two weeks before the summer holidays started, to accompany our father on one of his job-related travels. We got to see a lot of countries this way, which I think has had a big impact on me. Later I loved Midsummer, because the job-related stress had died down already, with most exams done (both those of my children at school and my students at work). But the older I get the less I value June. Mum is gone for six years already. Bonfires are mostly forbidden because of risk of fire. Travelling is cancelled, because hubby and I are the ones who will have to keep an eye on our offspring´s abodes, while they do the travelling thing- and when the last ones will be back, we´ll have September and corona-time again. Numbers are rising quickly, and out of experience I dare say that from September on a lot of restrictions will be brought back, because our experts so love to see us confined...
Daughter is back home today and will be on Thursday, too. This week it´s my job to drive her to work at three in the morning, but woe betide hubby, when he gets his car back (next week, hopefully). He has no qualms to drive my car during day, but during night it´s my turn!
I also wonder, if Cassian will be with us tomorrow. This morning I got a call from number three. Elsa has hand, foot and mouth disease, which is not only quite contagious but also quite perilous for newborns. Incubation period is three to six days, so Cassian might be down with a fever already! Good tzhing is that his mum had a phone call with Elsa´s mother, before we took him with us, and knew about Elsa´s sickness, though not yet which sickness she was suffering from...
