The problem with cooking was today´s lunch-dinner, which should have been ready between four and ten in the evening, depending on who was supposed to eat it: number four forgot to tell us that he´d come at ten in the evening, and daughter would come at four, because she forgot to bring her new power contract and had to take the bus to her flat first, to pick it up. So there was plenty of time to do Tantanmen ramen, and even more so, when son called that he'd come next morning. At least I thought so. I started with the broth, which went fairly well, until I dropped too much chicken bouillon powder into the pot. Powder had clumped, so I took a spoon, fished some clumps out, tossed them into the kitchen sink- and found son number one in front of the entrance door, winking happily at me through the window. He was here to pick up the energy drinks I had bought for him. Broth and the rest could wait, so I turned the burner off and took a break. Son left, hubby returned from grocery cycling. I decided that it was time to do some lunch then and dinner later. Poor hubby was condemned to eat fried rice with a bit of minced pork and bacon. Happened because he decided to eat the peanut chicken with bread only the day before, and I was not ready for tossing perfectly fine Basmati rice into the organic waste bin. After lunch I did some knitting in the studio, because I did not want to disturb hubby´s after-lunch nap. Went back down to the kitchen one hour later, continued with the meat- and found that hubby had forgotten to bring soybean sprouts. And, of course, neither pak choi nor Chinese cabbage was to be found in the store. Hubby readily climbed onto his bicycle again, because today is one of the days that driving with a car is very stressing and time consuming. Pentecost, two weeks of holidays in Germany- we´d always sit in traffic- stop-and-go since early morning! With his bicycle husband dearest was back at three, to tell me that he´d forgotten to tell me that he´d promised to bring Cassian to our house early and leave for Flavius duty at five. That man tops a goldfish, he has even less memory! Broth was ready then, vegetables and meat cooked, tare done also, with the last of tahini I had found at the back of the fridge. Tahini had been on yesterday´s shopping list. I have been in two shops- no tahini. And still no dark miso, which I need for the last touch to grilled meat. From Tuesday on I will begin to stock up on things that are existential for my cooking. Nothing wrong with having two or three jars of a product, because there is something very wrong with our supply chain these days! And just when I decided to sit down and have coffee and cake at four, I noticed that I had forgotten to cook the noodles for the ramen. Grrr! Seems that my brain is blending in with hubby´s! Finally I was able to feed Cassian, husband and daughter dearest. When I put the dishes into the dishwater, I found the uncooked soybean sprouts on the kitchen counter. Good thing was that hubby had already left! I tossed the sprouts into hot water and put them into a bowl afterwards, pretending I only had forgotten to put them into the soup. I hope this feint will work!
