What a strange weather!
Jun. 16th, 2023 07:46 pm It was the first time within two weeks that I woke to a clouded sky instead of sunshine. Got up, prepared breakfast then dashed onto the terrace, where hubby had already spread the gabbeh for airing. It was pouring, and I loved it, because less watering work! Only that less than half an hour later sun was back. At eleven o´clock my friend picked me up for a shopping tour beyond the border. We do this regularely to be able to compare prices. Last week a big sortiment of butter was under two Euro, my favourite Irish one cost only 1,59. This week no butter under 2,49 except for a home brand that tastes...special. Maggi (not existant in our household save for a few stock cubes) announced a delivery stop, hence empty shelves and desperate housewives. Barilla noodles and Milka chocolate cost half the price we have to pay in Austria, and the deadly duo will be ecstatic. And then there were strawberries grown in Germany for 3,50 a kilo. I brought three kilos home, not only because I like strawberries but because hubby wanted to make more jam, so two kilo for hubby and one kilo for me. My friend and I got out of the shopping centre. A gush of wind, another downpour, and we were both soaking wet, even though we had sought shelter in a trolley box. After a few minutes sun was back again. We drove home, I made us coffee- from sunshine to strong winds to rainstorm it only took a few minutes, at least time enough to bring back in coffee and cake. And the rug, of course. Friend went home, I washed the strawberries, cut the greens off then sat and watched hubby doing jam. And watched even longer. The food processor got wielded, and berry by berry hubby fought his way towards a perfect strawberry jam. At some point I had to tell him that doing jam would be way easier when he´d put the sugar onto the berries, warm them up and the moment the sugar was melted use the food processor for quick processing. But no, it was still berry by berry. Apparently more fun this way! I can tell you it took a long time to get all berries mashed! After jam making hubby jumped into his car to re-mount a wall socket in my sister´s flat. He wanted to turn it by 45 (yes, you read correctly) degrees, otherwise he would not be able to put in the screws. That wall socket must be a real eyecatcher when ready! BTW, sister mine sent me a message at a quarter to midnight last night. Because I forgot to turn off my phone both hubby and I were wide awake again and now knew that she was in town together with her family, ready for a visit on Saturday. I am so excited! But since no housework will be necessary tomorrow it´s not that bad, and I even will have plenty of time to search for honeysuckle, because- rose arch is in place, ready for plants! Thank you, hubby!
