The sound of silence

 They are off! Family number three left- not in the morning, as they usually do, but at two in the afternoon. Son got wind of me planning to do chilli con carne for lunch/dinner. DiL does not do chilli cc, because Elsa does not like it. Hubby dutifully drove to the butcher´s shop for more minced beef- minced beef is rare in super markets as of late- I chopped onions and garlic and put out my spices only to realise that with DiL being a guest eater I would only be able to put half of them to use. DiL does not do spicy. She almost dies off when her seatmate puts pepper on the meal. So smoked paprika it was instead of chipotle, no pepper, not enough salt- cooking for kids I did, though the kids at the table did not eat a single bite. I placed hot sriracha onto the table then as well as salt and pepper grinder. Two meagre portions of chilli cc are left for hubby and daughter as dinner. As I said- beware of family number three, they will raid your fridge and make short work of meals! After they had left, hubby and I fell onto our respective sofas for a late but well-deserved after-lunch nap. It was glorious- one hour of resting with no howling or singing or fighting! We love our granddaughter and her little brother, but it´s too frightening to even contemplate what would have happened if son and Dil would have built their home near ours...
    Hubby was off to work at number two´s bathroom then, and I did a final garden round, watering the vegetables, cutting some flowers for decoration, before the cold will get hold of us. Honestly, this year´s summer is just the opposite of what we got promised. It´s easily seen on the tomatoes, which are green mostly. At that time last year Cassian was pillaging ripe vegetables and berries. No fruits, because we did not have any. Same this year, except that there are five apples on our apple tree. Now let´s hope that the oncoming storms won´t tear them off...
