My do-not-eat list for vegetables
Aug. 5th, 2023 06:53 pm Hubby was off early for installation of sister´s new washing machine. Came back two hours later with two otomatones he had ordered on Amazon and the menu card of a new Thai take-out. When daughter came, we discussed what we´d choose. Hubby is the typical ´love all vegetables´ person, while daughter and I are quite picky. Her non-favourites are paprika and cauliflower, my list is a bit longer. First place makes cauliflower, closely followed by kohlrabi and broccoli. Next comes Brussel sprouts and kale, not to be confused with green cabbage, which is called Weißkohl sometimes. Here we call it Weißkraut. Kraut is very okay. It´s way easier to memorise my dislikes in German- as soon as the form ´kohl´ pops up I won´t eat the vegetable: Blumenkohl, Kohlrabi, Brok-kohl-i, Kohlsprossen, Grünkohl. Some vegetables are bland but I will eat them, like zucchini and eggplant. And I absolutely love sweet potato, asparagus, beetroot and spinach. Daughter´s godmother popped up for a late coffee and started a survey. How is it possible that so many know the cake but not the name it had been given then? Godmother also told me that she got bitten by vice-major´s dog- on her own property. Her skin did not break, but she had an enormous bruise. All that vice-major´s husband told her was that the dog usually does not do this. Short men and huge dogs are always a bad combination, and the men beyound the fence are short, while a Rhodesian Ridgeback is huge...
Since I still haven´t returned to an acceptable sleeping order (and won´t do so for the rest of August, with early shift maxi every three days) I turned my ebook reader on at three in the morning and rediscovered Lindsay Buroker´s Emperor´s Edge series. Read the first half of book one, the rest will follow this night. There´s much more to rediscover in my Kindle library!
