Autumnal woes
Nov. 10th, 2023 06:13 pm After DPD had finally delivered the sandsacks (the driver could not find the street we live in, but reported no one had been at home and he had to put a notice in the mailbox), hubby did a lot of sand playing, blessedly outside on the terrace. He drove to the river three times, bringing more sand from the riverbank. Now we are the proud owners of fifteen sandsacks, which should help against the hundred-year flood hubby is preparing for. My proposal of decluttering the cellar and bring washer and dryer to the upper bathroom got dismissed- too much work, too much clutter to bring away. Currently the sacks are stowed next to the terrace door- a reminder that hubby has to bring them to the garage. I hope I won´t have to decorate them with fir twigs for Christmas!
Apropos decoration: That Cassian loves to decorate you might know already. This year he has a special special wish- he wants to be with us, when we hang the red baubles onto the trees in the garden. One look at the most suitable tree for decorating made me doubt that the tree wanted to be decorated at all- it´s still full of leaves! But since it was raining only very lightly, I put on my garden shoes, which have been my bathing shoes in better years, and went outside, to play storm. A lot of leaves did desert the tree then, and I went back inside, to start crocheting again. Happily, as always, because I already mastered the darn crab stitch for a second time and am now back to the easy patterns. The main body of the throw will be finished soon, huzzah! So I continued with the diamond pattern, when I heard hubby´s scream of horror. Oh dear, what had happened? It was so very simply- hubby had detected the pile of leaves my ´storm´ had created. In the space of a few minutes hubby was out, in wellies and windbreaker, to put an end to this autumnal anomaly- leaves! On the lawn! God forbid! I am seriously tempted to borrow more leaves from the local park and spread them all over our lawn as an act of protest!
Tomorrow it´s family day again, with family number two, son number four and only daughter invited for lunch-dinner, which will be St. Martin´s goose, braised red cabbage, potato dumplings filled with cranberries and finally glazed chestnuts. Apparently it is no more in vogue to serve the cranberries as a compote! And since DiL number two is supposed to do the goose (I do the additional goose breast and drumstick, so that all will be happy and sated in the end, I see the next obstacle coming towards us- lunch will more likely turn into dinner with her usual time management!
