Number three's house got flooded. The water was over one metre in the living room. The family is at DiL's mother, which might be the next one in need of evacuating. Already the family created a place in the attic, where they might spend the time until rescuer will save them. The cellar was already flooded, and the water line was still rising... Son called at four in the morning that the fight against the water was lost, and they were in the process of getting evacuated. The house is now uninhabitable for God only knows how long, both cars got killed by the flood, one of them additionally slain by an armoire full of heavy tools. Matthäus and Elsa will get brought to our abode as soon as possible. Their parents will have to live in and work from an emergency shelter...
P S.: Water line began to decrease, the house they were in got wet but not so much. A proper cleaning and heating will keep it habitable. Of course, the next heavy rainfall is already on the way...
To make matters worse I have damaged my knee when taking a tumble in the silt in front of number two's entrance door, remains of the water that intended to make it into their abode. Son managed to keep most of it out, which in his case was easier because the house is situated on a hillside and two new and deep trenches led the water down to a farmer´s meadow (good luck to him with carting all the slip rock off that made it down from the mountain). Son only forgot about the silt at the entrance area, and I did not look hard enough. Knee is blue and bloodied, but I am able to bend it. Watching me walking up and down the staircase must be a sight to behold!
Then there´s the matter of me almost setting our house on fire. Because it was so cold husband mine kindled a fire in the stove. Usually not a problem- one only needs to put the wood briquettes in correctly, which hubby did definitely not. So when I opened the stove door a big burning briquette fell out onto its brethren under the stove, which were on fire, too- in no time at that! Hubby ran for the water while I stood petrified, sorry! We spent the rest of the TV programme in a cloud of smoke...
I think that´s enough of excitement for the next decade, I´d say! I am not made for such things!
