See, one day without family is all I will get! I had just showered when sister mine called and invited her husband and herself over for a cup of coffee in the afternoon. Darn, I thought. I had wanted to do a trip to Ikea to maybe find a nice artificial Christmas tree which does not look like as if the needles were made of green paper. So no Ikea for me but clear the next boxes with Christmas decoration, which hubby had brought up from the basement, then do lunch. I did not nap but had to answer quite a lot of mails I had ignored over the weekend. Oh God, I so hate writing mails! At 2:30 sister called to tell me that they were off to our house. Hubby broke his after-lunch nap, turned the coffee maker on, cut the cake and arranged it nicely on the four plates. Then we twiddled our thumbs while we waited. And waited even longer. Sister came at 3:30- must have done a huge detour! She had brought a long list of things to do she needs help with. Even hubby was amused- my father had instructed both his daughters how to use screwdrivers and the like. Sis must have forgotten how a screwdriver looks like, and her husband is as inapt as she is. Besides, he still can walk with crutches only, so he´ll be of no help when she wants to put two Ivars up- those ugly wooden shelves Ikea sold once) still sells. Sister left at six, I fled to the bedroom. At a day like today- wet and cool and dark- I´d love to be a mama bear in hibernation. I even forgot to cut branches off neighbour´s thujas (in the dark, of course, so that neighbour won´t complain, even though I am legally allowed to do so, because those parts of the tree are on our side) which I will need for the Advent wreath. Also forgot to buy more evergreens for Thursday. Not that it´s me who will need so many but my friend. She switched from last year´s slender wooden frame to a straw wreath she will wrap round with twigs, and she always needs twice as many twigs as I do. Sadly the prices for evergreens shot through the roof again. There will come a year when I will simply drive to a gardening shop and buy a wreath. Not this year- I already have candles, candle holders, items for decoration, but a binding wire coiled so wide that it would not have fit through the middle of the wreath. Winding 40 metres of it onto a wooden spool might have been the most arduous task of the day!
