The prices for Christmas trees went up, if only a bit. But the prices for evergreens for wreath making and the like went up a lot- last year I paid 12 euro for a really big bundle. This year two thirds of it cost 16 bucks. Must be because in times of the climate crisis the trees have to get fed by hand. The prices for wreaths in the shops have increased in price, too, but not that much. The problem is that those wreaths will wither away so quickly that buying them is a waste of money. None of those will live long enough to see the fourth of Advent. In the worst case people will torch their home when lighting the last candle! So despite the high prices I went to the garden centre and bought more evergreens, even thought of the cord I need for decorating the garden fence and found a mistletoe for the entry door. Now all I will have to do is fight the birds off, which want to get to the berries- that´s why I bought a load of birdseed to keep them otherwise occupied.
Hubby was off to sister after his after-lunch nap, while I pondered where to place the amount of artificial Christmas trees I bought last year. I was also pondering why I bought them at all. I placed them onto the steps of the staircase, and it looks nice indeed. Poor boys, they will have to circumnavigate the obstacles when running up and down! Seriously, our house is too small for so much decoration, but I love it! At least there will be no crafting with grandsons this year. Cassian and Flavius will help with doing the children´s advent wreath, do the picture-glueing for their Christmas tree, and that´s it! Also no big crafting with friends this year- no ideas, no place to display the result. The baubles hubby hung on the rose arch are also weather-worn and colour incompatible and won´t get kept for next Christmas but will wander straight into the bin in January. It is too late now for reorganising our Christmas stock, but I swear that half of the things will wander off to flea markets, and new ones will be purchsed next October, that´s when the new decoration trends will get presented. Recycling is nice, upcycling is even nicer, but buying new things now and then is nicest!
Now I have to redo the photos for the small tree- have been working on them in the afternoon, but when printing them out I noticed that I have overstimated their size- will have to enlarge them a bit. Not nice, means that I also have to adjust definition and contrast. Gah...
