Peace and quiet...
Jan. 2nd, 2025 05:45 pm ...in the house once more! I had overslept again- no clue why I am this tired at the moment. Next to no chores had to be done save for cooking son´s favourite dish, which is goulash Vienna-style. Hubby did cut the onions with that darn vegetable slicer which is prone to slice my fingers instead of veggies, the rest was done by me. The hardest part was sorting the meat out. This comes because of my grandfather, who only used expensive meat meant for roasting and added beef fat and cartilage seperately in a bag. No wonder that the goulash my MiL did got only eaten after a thorough inspection. Oh, the things we found in there! Still shuddering...
After lunch the big packing set in- number four did leave in the late afternoon. He left with goulash, pork roast and dumplings, almost all of our tuna and a box with cookies- and my beloved chipotle powder. Now where to get a new one...
It´s abysmally quiet in the house now. Hubby has been brooding over a problem with the heating. I was brooding about the menue plan and decided to put my wishes over hubby´s, so we will have the famous Krautsuppe tomorrow and decidedly less pots which need instant using in the fridge. Hubby gave in and bought minced meat. Daughter is not amused, because Krautsuppe is her favourite dish. I promised to freeze a serving (or two) for her.
Not a word from Amazon- they were supposed to deliver my order today, yet not even a mail that they shipped the goods came in. I was checking my mail account for signs that it has been hacked again. Did not find anything out of place and hope it will stay this way.
Tomorrow will be the day of a thorough house cleaning (I hope I will feel like it), its visible effects hopefully lasting until Epiphany, when sister and niece will come for a visit. Niece is very much like Cassian and Flavius- can be found all over the house. She has always been nosy!
Number three is already planning for us the days we have to spend with Elsa during semester break, when Matthäus will be safely stored in day care, but Elsa´s kindergarten will be closed because of holidays. Son thought that it might be nice for us to bring Elsa to a skiing course each day. I refused- I do not feel like wanting to drive Innergebirg, where there will be snow. Son still thinks there´s a skiing school nearby. Well, there has been one, when we still had snow. The skiing school got closed some years ago. Which is a sad thing, because so many children here learned to ski there. Number three was supposed to learn it, too. But on the second day of the course he retrieved his skis back out of the school´s bus, threw them into the trunk of our car and ended his career as a skier. And dear Elsa resembles her father a lot!
